This 100% Louisiana Cypress custom snare drum is certainly unique, from it’s thin, resonant shell, to its weather blue finish, it’s special. I wanted to create a custom snare drum that paid homage to my home state of Louisiana, and what better wood to use than Louisiana’s state tree, the Cypress?
Here are some specs: This beauty is a 7.5x14 custom snare drum with 3/8” thick main shell with additional 3/8” thick reinforcing rings milled directly out of the main shell, to give solid reinforcement without interrupting the dominant shell vibration forces. The batter bearing edge is roundover/30degrees and the resonant bearing edge is roundover/60 degrees.
This custom snare drum has black nickel die-cast hoops and tension rods, Champagne Drum custom handmade low made lugs powdercoated in black, a DW black nickel throw and 3 position butt plate, Purseound Custom Pro 24 strand brass snare wires, and Remo/Evans heads.
The thin shell made from this soft wood gives this custom snare drum a low fundamental tone. The roundover/30 degree batter bearing edge gives the batter head a lot of chance to interact with that low fundamental toned shell, thereby giving you a fat, deep sound when tuned medium and below. It all combines to give the drum a great bottom end AND crack while tuned medium-high and above. This custom snare drum is perfect for power ballads and just about anything else you throw at it.
