New Orleans, Weathering the Storms
A customer who currently lives in Chicago used to live in New Orleans and wanted a snare drum that would remind him of his time in the Big Easy. He “knows what it means to miss New Orleans”! He told me ”moving away from Louisiana, I see how other people look at the state. It shows resilience. The state can be weathered, but always shines bright in the end”. We collaborated on a design that fit his vision...2 weathered fleur-de-lis in gold leaf on a black weathered Louisiana Cypress shell.
This 6.75x14 100% Louisiana Cypress shell is about 3/5” thick. I topped it off with 9 coats of crystal clear, glossy, glassy, pricey, pretty, durable polyester clear coat. This custom snare drum has brass triple flanged hoops, brass tension rods, brass custom made low mass single contact point lugs from Champagne Drum in Canada, Puresound Custom Pro snare wires, a DFD throw off and butt plate in brass, and Evans heads. As usual with a stave drum this size, it has a fantastic crack and looks sexy, too. This one is sold, but I can make a similar drum if you’re into it.
