The Crystal Wenge
This 5.5x14 custom handcrafted snare drum is made from 100% hard wenge. The shell is about .55” thick and has a hybrid bearing edge - roundover/30degrees on the batter side and 45 degrees on the resonant side. I gave it a wash of diluted polyurethane, then sanded that off, leaving “crystal” deposits deep in the grain that sparkle in the right light. I topped it off with a crystal clear, glossy, glassy, pricey, pretty, durable polyester clear coat. This custom snare drum has chrome triple flanged hoops, chrome tension rods, brushed aluminum low mass lugs from Champagne Drums, Brass 20 strand snare wires, a DW chrome throw off and 5 position butt plate, and Remo heads. This custom snare drum has a huge tuning range and is obviously a beautiful specimen.
