The Wenge Birdseye Maple Tribute Drum
A client who owns a SevenSix Drum asked me to build another for him as a tribute to his beautiful dog who passed away recently. This gorgeous canine loved spending time on a rugged Island in the Northeast and that’s where he passed, so I decided to create a drum using wenge, to mimic his coat, and Birdseye Maple, which is a tree species that is indigenous to this particular island. I also added a tiny bit of white flecking deep in the grain to mimic his flecked coat.
This 5.5x14 custom handcrafted snare drum has a roundover to 45 degree batter side bearing edge, and an offset 45 degree bearing edge on the resonant side. It also has:
a 0.50” thick stave shell
black nickel single point lugs
black nickel hoops and tension rods
Puresound Custom Pro brass 20 strand snare wires
Trick Drums black throw off and butt plate
Matching air vent grommet
Remo heads
